The reason I decided to teach is because I want students to know that they are not alone in the classroom or in life. I want my classroom to be an open place where students can ask for help in school or other issues going on in their lives. I want to teach more about young adults books and short stories rather than anything else. I want to teach these two because I believe that students can relate to them and therefore will pay more attention when we discuss the material. I enjoy short stories and young adult books so obviously I want to teach them. The pieces that I enjoy are novels like The Outsiders and Monster and the short stories “The Lottery” along with “The Story of an Hour”. I am assuming I will probably have to teach Poetry, especially in high school and I will try to find a way to make it interesting but I am not looking forward to it. Teaching Mythology would be really interesting and enjoyable for the students too and I am excited to be able to take ideas from this class on how to do it.
